The inability to get to sleep or stay asleep is called insomnia. The lack of sleep or quality of sleep can cause one to have limited functioning during the daytime.

Insomnia is a common problem among people of all ages. It affects up to 50% of people and another 10% suffer from chronic insomnia. Although adults suffer from insomnia more than children, it is not uncommon in children. Women tend to suffer with insomnia more than men. Also as one ages, the higher the chances are to have issues with sleep.

There are many things that can cause sleeplessness. There are factors that are situational, stress related, mental, psychiatric, related to one’s sleep hygiene and sleep disorders.

There are many insomnia symptoms to determine if one is suffering from insomnia. If one finds it harder to function during the daytime, that is the most common symptom. Along with limited functioning, one will be more tired and feel as though they did not get enough sleep. One may feel very sleepy during the day and want to take a nap. Do I Have Insomnia Test

Other insomnia symptoms include one’s lack of energy and ability to concentrate can be decreased. With the lack of concentration, one may also make more errors and mistakes than normal. Paying attention to details is harder to do when one is tired.

Also, one’s social behavior may change. One may not be as interested in their friends as they once were. Also, someone that is not getting enough sleep or a good quality of sleep will be more moody. They can also suffer from anxiety and headaches. These are all insomnia symptoms.

Insomnia should be diagnosed by a doctor if it is believed to be caused from a psychiatric or medical condition.

Treatment will be dependent on the cause of insomnia. If it caused from something like stressing over an upcoming test, once that test is taken and over, the stress will be removed and normal sleep may return.

Taking the factor out of the equation is one way to treat sleeplessness.

Another treatment would be to treat any underlying medical or psychiatric condition. Unless those conditions are treated, one’s insomnia will not go away. Do I Have Insomnia Test
